About

About

The Alpine Medical Clinic was first established in 1989 by the legendary duo, Dr. Ian Macdonald and Dr. Jane Fowke. In 2004, the clinic set up its home in the eco-friendly Bison Courtyard on Bear Street, where we continue to operate today.

After 35 years of incredible dedication to the community, Dr. Fowke and Dr. Macdonald beautifully handed off the clinic’s legacy in 2024. They have officially sailed off into well-deserved retirement, though by all accounts, they are remaining just as busy and energetic in their new global adventures as they always were in the clinic!

Today, our team proudly carries their torch forward. We remain deeply committed to providing timely, friendly, and professional care to all residents of the Bow Valley, our outlying communities, and the many visitors to beautiful Banff.

Matthew Jenkins-Roy

Say hello to Matt, our Medical Office Assistant  and the clinic’s ultimate road warrior! Born in the US, Matt has lived all over the map—from the sunny beaches of Florida to the snowy peaks of Vermont—before finally deciding that Alberta had the best views and calling Cochrane home.

Matt brings a powerhouse combination of enthusiasm, sharp professionalism, and a rock-solid commitment to patient care to the Alpine Medical Clinic front desk. And when we say commitment, we mean it—he braves the daily commute from Cochrane to Banff with a smile, unmatched dedication, and some seriously impressive gas mileage.

When he’s not busy keeping our clinic running like a well-oiled machine, Matt is a true renaissance man. You can find him getting lost in a good book, hitting the hiking trails, indulging in a little retail therapy, or spending quality time with his family. Of course, he also answers to his two VIPs (Very Important Pups), Kase and Adora.

Clinical Assistants

Our Clinical Assistants join us from all over the world as part of their working holiday adventures. While they’re here to explore the mountains, enjoy the outdoors, and experience life in our beautiful community, we’re lucky to have their healthcare skills and great energy on our team.

They help keep the clinic running smoothly—supporting patient care, prepping treatment spaces, and lending a hand wherever needed. Each one brings something unique to our team, and we love the mix of cultures, stories, and accents they bring with them.

Next time you’re in, don’t be shy—ask them where they’re from or what’s on their mountain adventure bucket list. You might get a great travel tip (or a new hiking trail suggestion!).

We’re always excited to welcome new Clinical Assistants and are so grateful for the time they spend with us during their travels.

And just in case managing a clinic and exploring the Rockies wasn’t enough action, she also spends her time working as a part-time firefighter over in Lake Louise. Talk about putting out literal and figurative fires!

All of this is just prologue for Gillian, who is currently studying hard to pursue her ultimate dream of practicing medicine. With her incredible drive, outdoor spirit, and passion for helping others, Gillian brings a massive spark of energy and enthusiasm to our Alpine Medical Clinic family.

Amy Sutherland- Medical Secretary
